Sin-eating isn’t hard; it’s just a little awkward. This is something sixteen-year-old Val has known for as long as she can remember. For generations, Val’s family and families like hers have been responsible for keeping the sin of the world in check and slurping down sin is all part of the fun.

Except now there are less sin-eaters and far too much sin—and the sinners want to keep it that way. When Val eats the sin off of devilishly-cute-boy Harris’s soul, and immediately falls ill, she knows something isn’t right, and Harris doesn’t know much of anything at all, because one big side-effect of having your sin-eaten is your memory gets a bit foggy.

With his newly squeaky clean soul, Harris wants to help, and Val, who can hardly stand on her own two feet, is in no shape to refuse, but help can’t be found in a hospital—only in another sin-eater, in other words, Val’s father. He takes the cursed sin out of Val, claiming he knows the cure, but fathers will do what they have to do to keep their children safe, and Val learns too late that Harris’s cursed sin will kill her father in three days unless she figures out the root of it and the cure. The problem is, her only clues are with Harris and he has some major secrets of his own.
